I write fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry that challenge the absurdities of life, and trauma with wit, and a sprinkling of rebellion.
I began writing as a neurospicy child of the 1980s—friendless, so I invented companions. I dreamed of becoming a writer, but…my parents had other ideas…so I was rerouted into academia.
Twenty years teaching in the neoliberal machine – marked by endless restructures, the death of my first child, divorce, and single parenting—sharpened my humour into a tool for survival.
During this time, I dipped my toes into the writing world, publishing pieces of poetry, creative non-fiction, journalism, popular cultural studies, and education scholarship .
It was in 2018, when my teenage children “okay boomered” me into rejecting my parent’s career advice, that I enrolled in a Creative Writing PhD.
For over four years, I cast my sardonic net into the academic world, satirically commenting on the not-so-succulent experiences of women in academia in my lengthiest piece of writing to date: The Slackademics...which like most women’s studies departments is institutionally nomadic.
